Capturing the Blissful Moments of Life

Of all the types of photography (i.e., portrait and landscape), we can say that photography involving milestones in life like birthdays, weddings and graduations and photographing their blissful moments is the most loved. The photos shot during these special occasions speak of the affection, devotion and love between the subjects such as couples, mother and child, and siblings as well as friends.

Indeed, these instances are where your creative photography ideas will be useful.  However, capturing the blissful moments of life in photos requires preparation as well as patience, passion and persistence.

Get Your Gear Ready

Blissful moments are just that – moments. Blink and the moment will be gone. You must then always be prepared with your photography gear and, thus, be ready to capture the best moment as it happens.

Aside from your basic camera setup, you should also be ready with the following provisions:

• Extra batteries

• Extra lenses

• Soft cloth to clean the lens of dirt, dust and moisture as well as plastic bag to protect your camera from moisture

• Skylight filter and/or circular polarizing filter

• Air bulb blower and small brush to clean the imaging sensor

Keep in mind that, even with the best creative photography ideas in your head, you will be unable to capture blissful moments of life’s milestones when your camera setup is not up to par. Be prepared because the moment can easily slip away!

Plan Your Shots

Planning your shots does not mean asking the subjects to pose numerous times with the desired expressions (i.e., tender looks) and configurations (i.e., hugging). You can have staged photos, of course, but the blissful moments are mostly spontaneous. In other types of photography, staged photos are the only way to go.

Instead, planning your shots means being able to anticipate what will happen next. You will then intuitively know when to click, where to position yourself, and what angle to take so that you can capture the decisive moment.

To plan your shots:

• Visit the venue to determine the best places to capture great shots such as overhead.

• Talk to concerned persons about the expected positions of the subject on certain times. You will then be able to determine camera settings based on the expected actions of the subject as well as the background, lighting and composition, among other factors, of the photos.

• Take test shots of the venue to determine which places are best for what shots.

• Come up with a list of creative photography ideas. You can then play around with these ideas to suit the agreed theme of the photography, which is true in the case of weddings.

With the aspects of light, composition and background in place, you will be able to anticipate what will happen next. You can then set the camera settings and position yourself to capture the blissful moments during an event.

Take the Shots – and the Risks

With planning, you will be able to take great photos but you must also take risks. Keep these tips in mind, too:

• Let the subjects be themselves. The love between them cannot be faked, not to mention that the best moments come with spontaneity.

• Change your perspective to suit the moment. Take an overhead perspective instead of settling for an eye level shot.

• Find the real connection between the subjects.

You will find that Photoshop is unnecessary in capturing world-class shots – your creativity will suffice. Truly, the best creative photography ideas can only be realized when the subjects are connected by trust, affection and love – and that is truly capturing life’s blissful moments.
